Mr. Carraway joined the firm in 2010 as a Law Clerk, then as an Associate in 2011, and became a Shareholder in 2017. Based in the firm’s Raleigh office, his practice areas include workers’ compensation, civil litigation and municipal law in which he represents a variety of clients from the public and private sectors before the North Carolina Industrial Commission, State and Federal Courts, as well as in various forms of alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration. Mr. Carraway has successfully litigated complex injury and occupational disease claims before the North Carolina Industrial Commission at the hearing and appellate levels, as well as defended law enforcement officers and municipal law enforcement agencies in civil rights litigation before the United States District Courts and United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. In addition to a growing municipal practice, in recent years Mr. Carraway has developed a niche for defending individuals and businesses against penalties for failing to carry workers’ compensation insurance, as well as injury claims for which there is no insurance coverage.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Carraway worked as a paralegal and clerk in workers’ compensation and civil litigation firms in Wilson and Raleigh while attending the evening program at North Carolina Central University School of Law, where he was awarded the Spes Bona (“Good Hope”) Award and inducted into the Turner Inn of Phi Delta Phi International Legal Fraternity. Mr. Carraway’s success in maintaining a full- time career with the rigors of law school in the evenings is a testament to his work ethic and discipline, which he continues today and devotes to his clients. Having worked in small businesses in high school and college, Mr. Carraway observed first-hand the many challenges that businesses are confronted with and their impact on finances, sustainability, and growth. These early lessons are reflected in Mr. Carraway’s goal to provide practical and cost-effective legal representation to all of his clients.

A native of eastern North Carolina, Mr. Carraway lives in southern Wake County with his wife and three children. Mr. Carraway enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, and is certified by the World Taekwondo Federation as a First Dan (“degree”) Black Belt. A lifelong music enthusiast and guitar player, Mr. Carraway is also a regular performer with local bands and the Wake County Bar Association’s annual “Bar Awards” show and fundraiser which, since its inception, has raised over $1 Million for Legal Aid of Wake County.
